What´s Western Hokkaido Shiribeshi ?

 

Shiribeshi is located in the southwest area of Hokkaido with the Sea of Japan on the northwest side. The total area is approximately 4,305 square kilmeters, and covers approximately 5.2% of the total area of Hokkaido.It is comprised of 1 city, 13 towns and 6 villages all of which are rich with history, beautiful scenery, traditional culture, hot springs, fresh seafood, and so many more resources of tourism.
Therefore, there are numerous things to see, to do and to enjoy throughout the year.

Access to Shiribeshi area is so convenient from Sapporo and New Chitose Airport that it becomes the well known tourist attraction of Hokkaido, where over 23 million people come to visit every  year.

Climate

From Spring to Summer the region is quite temperate with many fine days.
In late Autumn and Winter the winds from the Northwest bring with them colder air currents and
very changeable weather with heavy rain which soon changes to heavy snow.
The district is blanketed in some of the highest quality snow in the world from late November to mid April.

Powder snow

Winter here is like winter nowhere else. When nature decides it is winter, the transformation is instantaneous, the mountains are instantly coated with a thick white blanket and while nature sleeps the mountains come alive with an amazing array of winter activities.  
The snow here is 'first grade'powder snow unlike any other snow on earth.
For skiing and snowboarding this is paradise!!
